About the Board


Parks and Recreation programs and activities operate under the leadership of the volunteer‑based Hepburn & District Parks & Recreation Board.


The Board is comprised of nine members representing the Town of Hepburn, the R.M. of Laird, and the community at large. The Board serves the Town of Hepburn (population 784; 2021 Census) and the surrounding district (approximately 500+ residents).

Meeting Schedule: Generally held on the Monday prior to the Town Council meeting at 7:00 pm.


Community Communications


The Hepburn Howler is the community’s monthly newsletter, highlighting Parks & Recreation programs and local initiatives.

Newsletter submissions are welcome and must be emailed by the last Monday of each month to recreation@hepburn.ca.


Grants & Funding


Saskatchewan Community Lottery Funding

  • Application deadline: March 31 (annually)
  • Follow‑up report and receipts due: May 31 (annually)
  • Funding distribution: August


Both existing organizations and new initiatives are eligible to apply. The Board distributes approximately $12,600+ annually. To book an appointment for application support, email recreation@hepburn.ca.


Grant Writing Support

Groups seeking additional funding are encouraged to explore available grants. Assistance is available upon request.


Purpose & Goals


The Hepburn & District Parks & Recreation Board exists to strengthen community well‑being by:

  • Coordinating inclusive, positive programs and events
  • Offering community‑wide activities multiple times each year
  • Promoting active and healthy lifestyles
  • Supporting local organizations and initiatives
  • Encouraging collaboration, communication, and volunteerism


Recreation Subcommittees & Programs


The Board supports a wide range of programs and committees. Volunteers are welcome to inquire about involvement in any area.

Current initiatives include:

  • Community festivals and seasonal events
  • Youth programs and Youth Advisory Council
  • Disc golf and outdoor recreation
  • Community gardens
  • Parent & Tot programs
  • Summer and school‑break programming
  • Fundraising initiatives
  • Communities in Bloom
  • Reconciliation initiatives
  • Homeschool gym times
  • Tutoring and homework support for youth
  • Regional sports leagues

Memberships & Partnerships


The Board is an active participant in provincial, regional, and community‑based recreation, culture, and economic development networks. These partnerships help strengthen programming, access funding, and support long‑term community growth.

Meetings & Participation


Next Meeting: Monday, February 23, 7:00 pm

Topics include Winter Fest, public skating schedules, pickleball nights, disc golf events, spring break programs, and more.


Meeting minutes are available upon request by emailing recreation@hepburn.ca.


Residents of the Town of Hepburn and the R.M. of Laird are welcome to submit feedback in writing or request to attend as a delegation. Delegation requests should be submitted by the first Thursday of each month.


Volunteer Opportunities


Volunteers play a vital role in delivering recreation and community programs. Opportunities are available for both short‑term and ongoing involvement, including:


  • Grounds and facilities support
  • Storage Room and SeaCan projects
  • Youth and family programs
  • Event and festival support

Residents may also apply to join a Parks & Recreation Subcommittee.
